Apparently, fellow Mavs teammates were leery of Dirk Nowitski’s fiancé all along, cautioning and advising Dirk to hire a private investigator to do a background check on his fiancé Cristal Taylor. The young woman was arrested at the Mavs player’s Preston Hollow estate Wednesday morning (while the Mavs were returning from Denver) and after police received a tip from an FBI task force officer. And the story gets even stranger. The young dancer apparently has been using over eight different aliases and has outstanding warrants in two counties. Friends of Nowitski have confirmed that Taylor is pregnant and the two are engaged (Dirk apparently bought Taylor a $250,000 ring.)

Dirk Nowitzki has a little bit more to worry about than just a crazy stalker.

The chick he sent to jail for breaking into his house is, or at least was, his fiance. Now she definitely knows that she is pregnant with Dirk's baby.

Or at least she's claiming it's Dirk's baby.

Dirk Nowitzki was able to laugh and call it 55 minutes of intense basketball fun.

Joaquim Gomes was on the verge of tears as he talked about his team’s heart and effort.

Those who saw Germany’s 108-103 triple-overtime victory over Angola on Thursday in the first round of the FIBA world championships will never forget it.

Nowitzki scored 11 of his 47 points in the third overtime to give Germany (4-1) the win in the first triple-overtime game in the history of the world championships and second place in the six-team Group B.

Angola (3-2) finished third, but added to the respect the African champions have earned in the tournament.

“That was just a fun game to be a part of for the fans, coaches and players,” said Nowitzki, the 7-foot star from the Dallas Mavericks who had 16 rebounds and went 17-for-17 from the free-throw line while playing 49 minutes.

Holy cow that must’ve been an awesome game, first 3OT in history, and damn… Dirk is just unstoppable. A seven footer who can hit threes and goes 17 for 17 from the line?

A very deserving MVP winner from last season. Dirk Nowitzki seems to have solid seasons every single year. He’s a competitor, shoots the lights out, and has learned to play some descent defense.

The annual NBA.com is out, and they're hit-and-miss when it comes to Dallas Maverick Dirk Nowitzki. Of the seven ballers picked as MVP contenders, ain't one of 'em named Dirk; instead, the GMs' early-season picks are, in order, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Dwyane Wade and Yao Ming -- yow, indeed, especially since Nowitzki is the reigning league MVP. But at least Dirk places on the list of players GM would pick to flesh out a new franchise: Of the five players listed, Dirk comes in at ... fifth, garnering a meager 3.7 percent of the vote (compared to LeBron's 59.3 percent.)

Dirk also places at the bottom of the list of the six top players who force opposing coaches to make the most adjustments, coming in after Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Tim Duncan, LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal. But he is the third best power forward in the league, behind Duncan and Garnett, so at least he's got that going for him

Well...not really -- at least, not so far. But according tojust posted at RealGM.com, Dirk Nowitzki did snatch the Most Valuable Player award, just edging out Phoenix Sun and former Mavs teammate and drinking buddy Steve Nash. Dirk got 17 first-place votes and eight second-place votes for a total of 109 points, while Nash came in second with 82 points.

Pause the obituary and fast-forward the optimism, because Dirk Nowitzki just saved his ass and his team’s season with a comeback of Staubachian proportions. Just as another passive performance was shoving his Mavericks to the brink of an unthinkable elimination, Nowitzki suddenly summoned one of in NBA playoff history. With Dallas trailing Golden State 112-103 with 3:10 remaining, Nowitzki hit a three-pointer, blocked a shot, hit another three and climaxed his climax by making six of seven free throws in the Mavericks’ unfathomable 15-0 run and 118-112 Game 5 victory.

Its MVP candidate resurrected, Dallas is back from the dead in a best-of-seven series that moves to Oakland for Thursday night’s Game 6. And, yes, after a memorable, magic night at the AAC, remains a viable conclusion. And while were busy doling out blame and digging Dallas’ grave, I joined the largest crowd to ever watch hoops at the AAC and got busy watching an instant classic.

For a change, Mavs fans were a positive factor. Despite the building’s artificial ambience and non-stop cues for when to be rowdy, loud and proud, the crowd stood most of the game, acquiesced to P.A. dork Billy Hayes’ constant demands of “Let’s Go Mavs!” and even generated their own “You Suck!” chant toward Baron Davis during a fourth-quarter free throw. The fans even stayed awake despite life-force-draining shenanigans to start the fourth. Seriously, a midget first dancing to an Al Green slow jam and then stepping onto a scale to weigh himself is supposed to get the home bunch jacked for the stretch? WTF?

And you know what else: Owner Mark Cuban was great too. With his team down 109-103 and the building in stunned silence, Cuban calmly bobbed his head to “Crazy Train” and moved to the edge of his team’s huddle to clap encouragement and offer vocal support. Not wild, animated suggestions, mind you, just a good old-fashioned one-man pep rally. Bravo.

Despite all the positive vibes, man, did it get bleak. When an off-balance Davis hit Golden State’s 16th -- yes, 16th! -- three-pointer of the night, Dallas was in a nine-point hole and the dude with the hood and the sickle was limbering. Dirk, however, wasn’t ready to die. “Our whole season was swimming away,” he would say later.

That’s when, just in time, he stopped thinking and started playing. A catch-and-shoot three got Dallas within 112-106. A block on Matt Barnes earned another possession and another three, this one after a nifty pump fake to trim the margin to 112-109. Like some of us predicted, Nellie and his band of underdogs totally wilted as frontrunners. The long jumpers that seemed so effortless all night came up woefully short in the last three minutes, as Golden State missed its last eight shots. Devin Harris made a driving layup, Dirk grabbed two key rebounds and calmly sank free throws after ensuing fouls and, finally, Dallas breathed a sigh of relief.

Dallas has been stagnant and downright ineffective more often than not in this series, and here’s hoping the improbable comeback came complete with an illuminated light bulb over Dirk’s noggin. At the ends of Game 4 and 5, with seemingly nothing only the line, Nowitzki swished four out of four three-pointers. If he plays loose Thursday, Dallas will force a Game 7 Saturday at the AAC that just might be as exciting as last night’s Game 5Which means absolutely nothing: The GMs also chose the Mavs' Avery Johnson as their Coach of the Year -- a day after Toronto Raptors' head coach Sam Mitchell.
